I've always been torn about NCIS. Good characters, but the more authority a woman has there, the more likely that she'll be killed. The more a woman's quirks can be read as diminishing her authority in relation to Gibbs; the more likely she'll live to see next season. Director, dead. Kate, dead and brought back to be a ghost in hooker-gear. Abby, as much as I like her, makes herself childlike and frames him with parental authority, and so takes the longevity prize.
