Is this the professional level equivalent to the arkansas move to cut funding for school food for schools with low student reading scores? cuz everyone knows that making kids go hungry makes them read and learn better just like making people unemployed will force them to repay their loans. /sarcasm doesn't seem to be enough of a response to this level of cruel stupidity.

I'm always appalled to see poverty treated as if it were a fault.
"Oh, you're poor? Your fault! Do you need help? No chance in hell, I'll let you die of starvation and illnesses."
Dystopian novels have lost their appeal when compared to the reality in which we live.

Poverty as a character flaw is the default setting for so many people and institutions and systems in the United States: capitalist economic systems and free markets see it, WASP descendants of the Puritans see it, heirs of the Social Darwinists see it, Calvinists see it, and all these groups see it as the systemic default setting. Unless something happens to challenge this belief, such as economic ruin facing them and not the 'other' person or family down the block who obviously has done something to call ruination down upon themselves. Then it becomes acceptable to have help from a government program until they are back on their feet. At which point they revert to their preprogrammed settings which their churches and political leanings tell them are right and proper.
